This product contains four reading comprehension passages with questions and activities about the nativity story. This resource can complement your work about Christmas or use it as a review/additional work to consolidate students’ knowledge about the birth of Jesus. Content: A. The Christmas story is told simply and can be used in guided reading. • Reading passage with pictures subdivided under three headings with reading comprehension questions. Paragraph 1: The Angel Visits Mary – 3 questions. Paragraph 2: Jesus is Born – 3 questions. Paragraph 3: The Shepherds and the Wise Men – 3 questions. B. The Christmas Story is divided in parts (more able readers). • Reading Comprehension Part 1: 6 questions. • Reading Comprehension Part 2: 5 questions and cloze activity. • Reading Comprehension Part 3: 4 questions and a tick box question. Answer Sheets Included. Suggested Use You could retell the Christmas story and then elicit from the students what they can remember. This resource relates to Canadian currency - nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars (loonies). The worksheets are in colour and black and white. WITH ANSWER SHEETS Each of the four worksheets contain a variety of tasks for students to complete on the topic of buying school supplies/stationery. Worksheet 1 - Students look at the pictures and price of each item and then work out how much two items of school supplies cost. Two questions at the bottom: Which student spent the most? Which student spent the least amount of money? Worksheet 2 - This worksheet is similar to the above except students are working out what 3 items of school supplies cost. Worksheet 3 - Students answer 6 questions about the items, e.g. Which item is the most expensive? How much less do the crayons cost than the ruler? The next task is to write the new price for each item which has risen by 10c. Worksheet 4 - The first task is to write the new price of the items which have risen by 20c. Second task - to add up 3 items of school supplies at the new price. Worksheet 5 - Sale Now On! - Students reduce the price of each item by 5 cents. They then recalculate the items of stationery bought (subtraction) **Additional worksheets: ** Drawing coins to match the price tags - Students use the fewest number of coins as many times as they can. Add coins and write the total on the price tag for each object shown. Challenge: Students add up all the prices on the tags and write the total amount of money spent. Minibeasts, bugs, insects bingo game. Your students can also play Snap! and matching pair cards. Increase vocabulary of minibeasts. Great value Minibeasts resource which contains: Teacher’s Notes 35 bingo cards labelled Card 1 to Card 35 30 different minibeasts call out cards 36 picture cards for a game of snap 36 picture cards with name labels which can also be used for snap The pictures are photos of common invertebrates. Preparation: Print onto card paper and laminate the bingo cards. Laminate both sets of picture cards and cut out. Play bingo as a whole class or children play in smaller groups. Play ‘Snap!’ Matching card game - - Lay out, say, 10 sets of matching cards face down on the table - players take turns to turn over two cards. If two cards match, he or she keeps the cards. If the two cards do not match the cards are placed put back again. The player with the most matching cards is the winner. Other uses: Create a minibeasts word wall - reprint the call-out cards and picture cards for a wall display. Opportunities for children to sort minibeasts into categories, i.e. insects, arachnids, myriapods, crustaceans, coelenterates, echinoderms, molluscs and annelids. Aim of the game(s) is to reinforce identification of minibeasts while having fun. This resource is on the topic of Saint George and The Dragon legend. A great introduction to myths and legends. Aimed at: KS1/2 The legend of St. George the dragon-slayer is on PowerPoint. The Presentation includes whole class activities and comprehension questions. Children are encouraged to participate in discussion about the story and check their understanding. The second PowerPoint Presentation explains what mythical stories are and why they were told (6 Slides). The third PowerPoint Presentation is on different dragons for whole class activity and to prepare children for their worksheet activity. The resource also contains:- Flexible detailed lesson plans covering 3 lessons (includes learning objectives and plenaries). Each PowerPoint slide is referred to in the lesson plans. Lesson 1: Children are presented with the legend of St. George and then there are 7 comprehension questions. The Myths Presentation is also referred to set the story in context. NOW UPDATED WITH WORKSHEETS - May 2019 The resources are for visual display around the classroom and can also be used as flashcards to teach days and month sequencing. Days of the week display title Days - Monday to Sunday display Months of the Year title Months of the Year display - January to December The four seasons display title The seasons Spring, Summer, Autumn/Fall, Winter Editable Birthday Wall display The birthday wall display is also on a PowerPoint Slide so you can type in your student’s name and print off. Alternatively, you can print off the PDF format and use blu tac or velcro and stick the student’s name on the birthday display. Create a seasons table - for example, in autumn lay out leaves, acorns and a harvest basket. In addition, there are worksheets to go with the displays. Days of the week – 4 worksheets Students cut and glue the days in the correct order. Jumbled days for students to unscramble and then write the days in the correct order. Students then answer the questions on the second part of the worksheet, e.g. What days do we call the weekend? Students read simple sentences that contain days of the week and then cut out and glue the strips in the correct order. Students write own simple sentences about what activity they do after school each day. To differentiate the activity, I have prepared a sheet with just pictures and activities on them which some students can choose and cut out to stick onto their worksheets and use the words to create a simple sentence. Months of the year - 5 worksheets Students cut and glue the months in the correct order. Months of the year poem – You can read aloud the poem to the students and ask them questions on it. It is also on PowerPoint. You could ask them if the months are in the correct order. Which months have 31 days? Which month has 28 days? Work at the table: Students can work together to read the poem and answer the 5 questions. On this worksheet, students trace over months and then list them in the correct order. In the last column they write the number of days in each month. Sorting months worksheet – Students write the months under the correct seasons. The last task is to write the month their birthday is in. Differentiated worksheet – students sort the months by cutting and gluing the months into the correct seasons on the wheel. The cut and paste activities are differentiated - children cut out the water cycle circles and glue them in the correct order using the arrows.
